The Covid-19 pandemic continues to impact all of us, and artists have been hit especially hard as tours and shows are canceled for the foreseeable future. With such a major revenue stream drying up almost entirely, finding ways to continue supporting artists in the coming months is an urgent priority for anyone who cares about music and the artists who create it.
On Friday March 20, 2020, Bandcamp waived their usual revenue share in order to help artists and labels impacted by the pandemic. The Bandcamp community showed up in a massive way, spending $4.3 million on music and merch—15x the amount of a normal Friday— helping artists cover rents, mortgages, groceries, medications, and so much more. Based on this success, Bandcamp extended the monthly fundraiser, and in just four days, fans put more than $20 million directly into the pockets of artists and labels.
But the pandemic and its impact on the music community aren’t over, so on August 7, they will again waive their revenue share for ALL sales on Bandcamp, from midnight to midnight PDT. This Friday will be a perfect time to purchase the new album from SLO County Stumblers! Now available on compact disc, limited edition 12″ vinyl, and digital download.
July 10, 2020. All the Good Times is available today as a digital download and 12″ vinyl, with CDs coming soon. And this morning, in keeping with the bizarro theme of 2020, we awoke to find the amazing coincidence that Gillian Welch and David Rawlings dropped an album today by the same name.
You know that saying that great minds think alike? We’d love to say that we’re pleased as punch to share mental greatness with Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, but in fact we’re chalking this one up to pure coincidence. You see, back in 2019 we made our first record with plans to release it in May of 2020 at a series of tour dates we had scheduled (those were the days). Of course, we all know what happened next. So, we’ve been sitting on this record for quite a while now, trying to determine the best timing to release it.
We’re thrilled to share our music with the world! Please head over to our website or Bandcamp to order your copy of All the Good Times on limited edition vinyl, CD, or digital download. Thanks for your support.
Greetings from New World String Project! Our mission has always been to bring folks together with our music, creating a sense of warmth and community in our modern world. But now, all four of us are hunkered down in our respective homes in Oregon and California, hoping for a timely end to the difficult days in which we live.
Since we can’t all be together, we want to share some live tracks that we recorded a while back at a club in Berkeley, CA called The Back Room. These six tracks will be released one per day for a week, starting on April 16. That’s the date we WOULD have played the first show on our Spring Tour through Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Washington. The tour has been postponed.
We are giving these tracks for free in hopes of lifting your spirits during the quarantine. However, you have the option to donate any amount when you download, if you desire. Tips are greatly appreciated, but not required.
We play extraordinary instruments and heartwarming music rooted in the Nordic, Celtic, and American folk traditions. New World String Project is Aryeh Frankfurter (nyckelharpa), John Weed (fiddle), Lisa Lynne (cittern, harp) and Stuart Mason (octave mandolin, guitar). Now being mixed and mastered in Germany, our first full-length studio album will be released in the coming weeks.
Until then–enjoy a gift of “quarantunes” from all four of us at New World String Project. One a day, starting on Thursday, April 16. Live tracks will be downloadable until April 30 on our website at newworldstringproject.com.
