Stuart Mason Guitar and Mandolin LESSONS AND WORKSHOPS ON GUITAR AND MANDOLIN

Stuart Mason teaches acoustic guitar and mandolin family instruments in his private music room at home in Los Osos, California. I teach beginning guitar and oldtime bluegrass in standard tuning as well as Irish-style guitar in DADGAD tuning. I play mandola in the unusual tuning of DAEA but teach standard mandolin tuning (GDAE) as well as Irish bouzouki tuning (GDAD). My approach is based on learning by ear the well-known favorite songs and tunes in the old time and Irish traditions. All ages are welcome.

I also lead workshops or group classes in traditional (oldtime bluegrass and Irish) music techniques at music festivals and camps. Workshops can be as short as one hour or as long as a week of one-hour classes.

West Virginia-born Stuart Mason is known in the California traditional music community for his driving rhythm guitar, melodic mandola picking, traditional singing style, and inability to hold his whiskey. He has appeared on stage playing oldtime bluegrass at the Feakle International Music Festival in Ireland, playing Celtic music at the Shanghai International Music Carnival in China, and many shows in between. He plays guitar and mandola in fiery Celtic band Molly's Revenge and has been on guitar teaching staff at the CTMS Solstice Festival in Calabasas and Lark Camp in Mendocino. He helps to lead the Wednesday night Irish music session at the Morro Bay Brewing Company that has been going on for over ten years.
